Giuseppe Mannino breathed new life into his family’s winemaking vocation and into the Etna Doc denomination, building a dynamic entrepreneurial reality. As the heir of six generations of winemakers, Giorgio is now the leader of a solid and well-established wine and agricultural business.

Winemaking has been the traditional family vocation for over five generations until – in the early Nineties – Giuseppe Mannino sought to transform this labour of love into a modern and dynamic entrepreneurial reality. Thus, Tenuta del Gelso become the headquarters of a lively viticultural hub, a proud expression of the Etnean territory and its unique character. These were extremely significant years:  Gheorghios – the core wine label produced at the time by the Mannino family – was bottled and so were the wines produced by the consortium of the Etna Doc passionately championed by Giuseppe himself. As president of the consortium in the decade 2008/2018, he succeeded in bringing the Etna Doc denomination under the international limelight. Today it is Giorgio – Giuseppe’s son – who leads Tenute Mannino di Plachi, making Tenuta del Gelso and the other company estate a true symbol of the excellence of Made in Sicily in the shadow of the Volcano.
